Eight women completed a successful business visit to Hong Kong and Taiwan in December 2007.

The tour, facilitated by OBE Beef provided both an opportunity for the promotion of OBE organic beef as well as the exchange of ideas and discussion of future business opportunities.

The delegation included women who are part of the OBE Beef supply chain and included;

Dalene Brook – Brisbane

Jo Laurie – Birdsville

Joyleen Booth – Murnpeowie Station Strezleki Track South Australia

Cheryl Napier – Gilling via Yelarbon

Georgie Fraser – Nooyeah Downs – Thargomindah

Nell Brook – Birdsville

Judy Rayment – Adria Downs Station Birdsville

Karen Brook – Charleville

Their schedule included visits to Hong Kong and Taiwan, interacting with OBE’s customers as well as a number of media engagements – a highlight being a feature story in the South China Morning Post – the daily Hong Kong paper read by millions!

For some of the women, like Joyleen Booth, it was their first trip overseas. ”I believe I can now have a go at more things, more challenging than what I do in my everyday life. I would not have considered this before. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful trip, a sneak introduction into the language and lifestyle of people of other cultures is something that I will not forget”.

Cheryl Napier explained, “I have been proud to promote Australia and in particular the Channel Country and have become more passionate about our lives and work in the pastoral industry”.

Nell Brook provided the following testimonial. ” I am proud to be part of OBE Beef who has facilitated this innovative initiative to connect groups with similar interest in countries which OBE has business connections. I am inspired by the cohesive interest and enthusiasm the group of women has shown in and for the people we have met during the past week. In our small way, we are working towards a sustainable future for the next generation of families and our planet”.

At 17 years old, Georgie Fraser was the youngest member of the group. She explained, “I have enjoyed the opportunity to spend 10 days with seven inspiring women in two foreign countries in order to gain a better understanding of how the OBE supply chain operates. The memories and experiences will be unforgettable and the challenges that I have faced proved extremely beneficial”.

A highlight for each of the women was both the professional and personal growth all achieved by being given the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones. OBE Management are now planning for the next visit to Asia early in 2008.
