Central Western Qld Industry Excellence Awards 09 – Reward and Inspire
The Longreach Civic Centre was packed to capacity as guests watched Longreach Health & Fitness take out the major award of ’Most Outstanding Customer Service’, at the Nissan Central West Industry Excellence Awards.
Initiated by the Remote Area Planning and Development Board (RAPAD), the awards night lived up to the benchmarkit set in 2008.
Olymic gold medalists Natalie Cook and Steven Bradbury were guest speakers for the evening while legendary comedian Brian Doyle and local band Factory Fleece, provided the entertainment.
Truly representative of the Central West, the category winners were spread across the region.
Winners included the OBE consortium from Diamantina’s Channel Country, through to the Boulia Shire Council in the North Western parts. Barcaldine featured for its fabulous Westech Field Days, along with Yaraka for its community focused campdraft facilities, and south again to Blackall, for the innovative Blackall Bestprac Group.
RAPAD Chairman Cr Ed Warren said the awards night was all about rewarding and celebrating our regions high achievers.
’These people and businesses are what makes our region great and I’m proud that we have been able to implement these awards’, said Cr Warren.
Australia’s Governor General, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce was unable to attend the evening howeverCr Warren, in his opening address, spoke from a congratulatory message from Her Excellency. In it, Ms Bryce commended the awards, stating they were a mark and measure of vitality of rural life: its progress, innovation, viability and connectedness.
Cr Warren said to receive the personal greeting from Her Excellency was in itself a highlight.
