Despite approximately 1 in 5 (20%) of Australian adults experiencing a common mental illness each year, mental health is still a hushed topic in most homes and workplaces. – MHFA,2019

The team at OBE Organic has committed to challenge the stigma of mental health by completing the internationally recognised Mental Health First Aid Course to assist in the development of a Mental Health Committee and Action Plan.

Increasingly, more and more organisations and workplaces are realising the impact of mental health problems at work on their people and productivity.

Research has indicated that working in an environment that is mentally healthy is the second most important factor when looking for a job.

Keeping this need in mind, a well-designed mental health action plan to promote a healthy working environment and culture has been set as one of OBE Organic’s goals.

To ensure the success of this Action Plan we are developing a Mental Health Committee to be more equipped to support individuals and reduce risk for mental health conditions in the workplace.

Sales and Production Executive Elle Rands and Administration Manager Kim Stalley gained Mental Health First Aid accreditation to educate our staff on mental health conditions and signs, and available services and support.

The Mental Health First Aid Course advises participants to assist those who are developing a mental health problem or experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem until appropriate professional help is received.

Our Mission: ‘Help people lead better, healthier lives’

Our Mental Health Committee and Action Plan is consistent with our mission and is in line with our FLOURISH sustainability program pillar of improving the lives of our employees.

The course is helping us meet Workplace Health and Safety requirements to provide an environment that is both physically and mentally safe and healthy.

Following Elle and Kim’s accreditation from the Mental Health First Aid Course we’ve seen a difference already in our staff culture. We recommend this accreditation to anyone seeking to make a real difference to your community or business.
