The black tree goanna is found in timber along riverbanks in the Channel Country. Whilst these lizards are fairly common, they are not easy to see. Angus looks in the hollows of trees for shots like this one. A goanna is any one of several species of lizard of the genus Varanus found in Australia and Southeast Asia. The goanna features prominently in Aboriginal mythology and Australian folklore.
