In July 2021 the Wangkamadla people’s rights were formally recognised in a native title determination.
The native title encompasses seven cattle stations (including parts of Kamaran Downs Station) one-fifth of the Munga-Thirri National Park and parts of the Simpson Desert, Cravens Peak and Ethabuka Nature Reserve.
A celebration was held in August 2022 at Craven’s Peak and Nell and I flew north in our Cessna 210 to join the ceremony.
The ceremony included a Welcome to Country by Aunty Isabel Tarrago, a smoking ceremony by Trevor Dempsey, speeches and formal presentations.
Cravens Peak Reserve has been renamed as Pilungah Reserve. Learn more here https://www.bushheritage.org.au/blog/introducing-pilungah-reserve
