RFDS Deputy Head of Flying Operations and Pilot Nick Tully grew up on Bunginderry, a 180,000-acre sheep and cattle property 80km west of Quilpie in southwest Queensland. His passion for flying runs in the family as his father was an aviation fanatic who owned an old Cessna aircraft at their station. While the Cessna was there for station use, Nick couldn’t help dreaming about one day becoming a pilot.

In December 2006 Nick passed his Private Pilot Licence and has just ticked over 18 years as a pilot. So far, he has clocked more than 8500 hours in the air, and around 4000 of these has been with the RFDS. If he could, he would buy a Cessna 337 aircraft, but he has always been fond of flying the PC-12 and King Air which he has flown for the Flying Doctor.
