RFDS (Queensland Section) Chair Georgie Somerset is a beef producer and rural leader with experience in agribusiness, rural tourism, and regional development. Georgie grew up on her family’s cattle station in outback Queensland and has lived in the bush for all but a couple of years.

After completing high school, she set up a tourism operation on her family’s sheep station, and then operated a marketing consultancy focused on farm holidays – enabling others to share life in rural Australia when they travelled.

Georgie and her family operate a beef cattle business in Queensland’s South Burnett region, and she swaps cattle yards for board rooms on a regular basis. Georgie has gone above and beyond to help those living in rural and remote communities by identifying opportunities and advocating for them, resolving issues, and creating linkages and networks across sectors.

Her passion for the RFDS stems from her belief that life expectancy should not be determined by a postcode, and Georgie is deeply committed to ensuring we deliver the finest care to the furthest corner, adapting and innovating to serve our rural and remote communities.
