lifeblood red cross

In February 2021, we launched our initiative to #Save1000Lives with Lifeblood Red Cross. We asked all those eligible to sign up to our team and donate some liquid life. We needed 333 donations to achieve our goal. Whilst it’s taken us 12 months longer than planned, we are getting oh so close. Together, we’ve given 292 donations in total. We’re about 41 donations shy of our target, so it’ll be early 2023 when we hit our 1000 lives target. Together, we’re Australia’s Lifeblood.

The perfect gift that doesn’t cost a thing

Every year when December rolls around, most of us are hit by a confusing combination of festive feelings — the joy that is Christmas and the anxiety that is buying Christmas gifts. As wonderfully uplifting as the season of giving is, it comes with a certain pressure to put something special (and unique and meaningful and personal) under the tree. In short, wrapping up socks can leave some of us feeling like we’ve under-delivered. So, Australian Red Cross Lifeblood has come up with something wonderful to get you through the season — it’s called the Gift of Life.

You can help!

Donation only takes an hour of your time. Booking an appointment means less waiting time and your choice of appointment. Register, find a time that suits you, and reserve your spot all at lifeblood.com.au, or by calling 13 14 95.

Centres are open all through the holidays, including some centres opening Christmas Day and New Years Day. The need for blood doesn’t take a break, so we’re opening up extra appointments over the very busy Christmas period. Together, we’re Australia’s Lifeblood.

Here’s some background to our Lifeblood team called #save1000Lives

With the world coming to a pause in 2020, there was one essential service that had not ceased in demand: Blood and Plasma donations.  One in three Australians will need blood or blood products in their lifetime, but only 1 in 30 donate, Lifeblood continues to encourage people who have never given blood to roll up their sleeves.

We were proud to join Lifeblood’s Team Donation program. We set an ambitious goal to #Save1000Lives before the 31 December 2021 – and we asked for community help to get us there. With Australia needing a new blood donor every 5 minutes, this was only a fraction of the people who would be needing blood in 2021.

“I think generosity is in Australia’s blood.” OBE Organic Managing Director, Dalene Wray said. “Donating blood or plasma is a costless habit that can help save countless lives.”

The reality is people of all walks of life need blood products. Some need it to get them through a serious event in their lives, like cancer or a difficult pregnancy, others have medical conditions which mean they need blood products regularly to stay alive or be healthy.

“It’s a selfless act of kindness that ends with a cup of tea and a sausage roll, if that’s what you’re craving afterwards.” Dalene added. “It only takes an hour of your time and you help save the lives of three fellow Australians in need of life saving blood or plasma.”

You can safely donate blood every 3 months, which guarantees the availability of blood and plasma for those who need it most. With you help, we can achieve our goal to #Save1000Lives and advocate others in your network to begin this simple, lifesaving habit.
