If you look closely, you’ll see the old crossing over the Diamantina River at Birdsville. It’s only a half a meter above the bottom of the river. It was our only access over the Diamantina from the south until the mid 1980’s when a new bridge was built. The new bridge sits about seven meters above the bottom of the river. We are campaigning to have the Old Crossing repaired as you can’t drive over it anymore. Locals go there to catch yabbies.
