Location & Family Life
Don was raised on Kurran Station in the Diamantina Shire by his parents, Charlie and Pauline. He and Judy (née Brown) married in 1993 and together now care for four daughters, two sons, five granddaughters, and four grandsons.
“We moved to Adria Downs in 2005 to manage this organic property west of Birdsville… and the land here has become our life’s work.”
Adria Downs borders the Simpson Desert National Park and is nourished by the Georgina River, which flows across wide floodplains that stretch up to 20 km before reaching Lake Muncooney.
Operating in the Outback & Community Involvement
Day-to-day life involves running a large organic cattle property, but it also includes giving back to their community. For eight years, Don has served as President of the Birdsville Social Club, while Judy serves as both President and Secretary. Together, they organised the first-ever rodeo in Birdsville (2006) and held the town’s inaugural campdraft event in 2012.
“The community means as much to us as the land itself. That’s why hosting events like the rodeo felt like a way of giving back.”
Why Organic Farming Matters
For the Rayment family, embracing organic farming is about preserving the integrity of their land and cattle.
“We believe organic agriculture ensures the health of our land, our animals, and our family heritage.”
Their work at Adria Downs exemplifies the deep-rooted values of stewardship, care, and community that define OBE Organic’s essence.
